Four-Alarm Fire Damages Dallas Gun Range

On Sunday, February 24, firefighters responded to flames that were reported at an indoor gun range near the Dallas Love Field Airport. According to local sources, a Texas resident was shooting tracer ammunition which, when shot, ignites. The four-alarm blaze ruined the building’s roof and one wall.

Firing tracer rounds is strictly prohibited at the gun range. At the time the bullets were discharged, it was estimated that anywhere from 50 to 100 people were inside the building.

“It was pretty scary,” said one man named Brett, who was present. “There are a bunch of bullets in there, and there’s no telling how far or when they’re going to go off.”

One firefighter was treated for minor smoke inhalation. Luckily, no one else was hurt. As a result of the blaze, roads within a quarter-mile of the gun range were blocked off. Specifically, West Mockingbird Lane was closed between Stemmons Freeway and Harry Hines Boulevard while rescue teams battled the flames.

The Dallas Morning News reported that no criminal charges would be filed against the person who triggered the fire because no laws were violated and the cause was believed to be unintended. However, television news station KHOU did say that the shooter may face a civil lawsuit from the owner of the gun range stemming from the damage that he caused.
