Possibly the worst thing that can happen to the home of any Georgia resident is a fire that destroys the property and endangers the lives of its occupants. As a leading Atlanta alarm company, we can’t stress enough the importance of maintaining a residential fire alarm system in your home so that anyone inside is alerted to the presence of fire and given enough time to escape.
Recent tragic events near Augusta, Georgia, are further evidence that such incidents can happen to anyone when they least expect it.
A fire broke out at a home in the town of Keysville, Burke County, Georgia, on Sunday, May 5. The fire left the home severely damaged and killed both the owner, Eddie James Waltower, and his wife Sarah.
According to CBS Atlanta, a local affiliate, the fire started around 8:30 p.m.
The source spoke with Ralph Hudgens, Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner, who said “the initial investigation revealed that the fire originated on the rear porch of the residence near a freezer.”
“We have not found anything suspicious about this tragic fire,” said Hudgens.
Despite advances in building safety codes and the brave efforts of firefighters, there were over 3,000 civilian deaths from fires in 2011.
