Fire at Auto Repair Shop Near Downtown Atlanta
As the summer approaches, it’s imperative that property owners get in touch with an Atlanta alarm company. The hot weather combined with the increased chance of thunderstorms and other hazards present serious risks for any home or business, so we encourage you to consider installing a fire alarm system.
On the morning of May 22, an automobile mechanic shop near downtown Atlanta caught fire and sent up a plume of smoke that was visible for miles. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the two-alarm fire occurred on the 300 block of Marietta Street at United Transmissions, a transmission rebuilding business.
No injuries were reported. The owner of the shop told the source that no one was in the building at the time of the blaze, but that five to ten cars were being stored inside.
It was unclear at the time of the incident what sparked the blaze. Atlanta Fire Battalion Chief Edward Hill told the source that the fire posed a significant threat to first responders due to the large number of flammable liquids and chemicals that were stored there for vehicle maintenance.
According to Atlanta Fire spokeswoman Janet Ward, the fire was fully involved and the building is a total loss. NBC 11 Alive, a local affiliate, reported that 15 fire trucks and 70 firefighters responded to a 911 call from a construction worker who saw the smoke on his way to work in the morning.
