Connecting Your Video Security System to the Atlanta Police Department
If you’ve considered investing in a video security system for your Atlanta business, you’ve probably wondered how useful it would be given that it captures crimes as they happen rather than preventing them from occurring in the first place. However, the Atlanta Police Department (APD) and Atlanta Police Foundation have sponsored a program that allows private companies to work with law enforcement officials to make such systems more useful in stopping criminal activity.
Operation Shield is a program intended to promote better communication between police and local businesses, and represents a partnership between the APD and the Atlanta Security Council, Central Atlanta Progress, Atlanta Downtown Improvement District, and Midtown Alliance. One of the most important aspects of Operation Shield is the Video Integration Center (VIC), a facility where APD officials can monitor video streams from IP cameras located in both private and public spaces. With the cooperation of these institutions, law enforcement will be able to better respond to emergencies and analyze footage.
Participation in Operation Shield and the VIC is completely voluntary, but could help police in the event that your facility is compromised and you need assistance. Those interested in joining the program can contact Grant Hawkins, Operation Shield’s Director of Programs, at (404) 586-0180.
If you don’t already have an IP camera installed in your facility, we recommend contacting an Atlanta Alarm company to have such a device placed in your business, as this will better protect your property and help police track down perpetrators of burglary, robbery and assault. Call American Alarm at (770) 645-0061 for more information.
