Two Former UGA Athletes Charged with Armed Robbery
It’s difficult to overstate the importance of investing in a well-maintained home security system monitored by an Atlanta alarm company. Such a system can protect your property against burglaries and help law enforcement officials catch unwelcome intruders.
CBS Atlanta, a local affiliate, reports that two suspects have been arrested for armed robbery on the morning of May 27 in the college town of Athens, Georgia. Both men, Ricardo Crawford and DeMario Mayfield, are former student athletes at the University of Georgia. They were pulled over by Athens-Clarke County police after driving suspiciously. Upon closer inspection, their vehicle was found to have guns, ammunition and marijuana, as well as a mask and latex gloves that they’d planned to use in a robbery.
According to the Athens Banner-Herald, a local news publication, the two were charged with felony armed robbery as well as misdemeanor loitering and prowling. They caught the police’s attention when they made a sharp turn behind an apartment building, where officers knew students were likely to be absent. It was unclear at the time of reporting whether they had been successful in stealing anything.
Mayfield played for the University of Georgia’s men’s basketball team in 2009 and 2010 before transferring to the University of North Carolina – Charlotte. Crawford was a defensive lineman for the Bulldogs football team.
