Sandy Springs Teenagers Confront Armed Burglars
A 19-year-old and his teenage sister were woken up in the middle of the night on June 18 after armed robbers broke into their home in Sandy Springs, Georgia. The burglars initially knocked at the door and rang the doorbell. When the occupants of the home didn’t answer, the pair forced their way in, looking for jewelry and other valuable items.
MyFoxAtlanta, a local affiliate, reports that the brother and sister were woken up by the commotion, and when they went to see what was happening, saw a laser on the walls just a few feet away. The light came from a laser sight attached to one of the suspect’s guns.
Once they realized there were people inside the house, one of the intruders ordered the teenagers back into their room, then fled the scene with thousands of dollars in jewelry.
Lt. Sandy Rose of the Sandy Springs Police Department said that in these situations, it’s best for residents to respond to knocking and doorbell ringing in some way, either by turning on a light or shouting, but never actually opening the door.
“Overall, looking at these over a number of years, I think it’s best to go ahead and answer,” Rose told the source. “You can say whatever you want…don’t open the door.”
Police are searching for two suspects, both white, one tall and skinny with a goatee and another who drives a blue Mercedes.
