Recent SStorms Highlight the Need for Fire Protection System Vigilance
Storms have been rolling through the state of Georgia over the last few days, and the presence of lightning and downed power lines have served as a reminder that Atlanta residents must be vigilant about preventing and controlling fires. As one of the leading Atlanta alarm companies, we cannot overstate the importance of having a residential fire alarm system in your home that can alert you to the presence of a blaze before you and your loved ones are harmed.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, a local news publication, reports that firefighters have been responding to calls all over the city regarding homes damaged by fallen trees and utility poles. One home was practically destroyed by a falling tree.
“We cannot get in the house because it is too dangerous,” Norcross, Georgia, resident Liberty Taylor told the source. “If we open try to open the door, it might collapse. We cannot get our things out.”
Complicating these problems were power outages caused by electrical poles being damaged.
“All public safety officers are working from backup channels and are able to communicate without interruption,” said Fulton County spokeswoman Jessica Corbitt. “At no time was the public 911 system affected by the issues.”
Something that all area residents should keep in mind is that power outages and downed electrical lines can create a major fire hazard, as surges can blow out electrical appliances that aren’t plugged into surge protectors.
